How Does Refrigerator Work
What is refrigeration? Is the removal of heat from a designated
space,
transferring it to another area.

What
is refrigerant? Is a substance in a refrigeration mechanism, which absorbs and
releases heat.
Now we will discuss what happens in a
refrigerator, by explaining it’s internal components, used
with the refrigerant.
Evaporator- Absorbs heat from the space being refrigerated. The evaporator is
considered to be on the “low side” of the system.
Compressor- Lowers the pressure in the evaporator, causing liquid
refrigerant to vaporize, thus absorbing heat. Now the heat laden vapor is
compressed into a high pressure vapor, while moving it to the condenser. As you
can see, we have a taken heat from inside the cabinet and moved it to the
out-side area, which is the condenser.
Condenser- dissipates the heat, and condenses the high pressure vapor back
into a cooled liquid. The condenser is considered to be on the “high side” of
the system.
Capillary Tube – This device is a very tiny hollow copper tube, It meters the
amount of liquid refrigerant fed into the evaporator. It also maintains a
balance between the condenser and the evaporator.
The “cap tube” is considered to be on the high side of the system.
Now lets move down to external components, also vital to refrigeration.

Condenser Fan Motor- Blows “ambient air” across the condenser coil, helping
it release heat.
Cold Control- Turns the compressor on and off, at various temperatures.
Defrost System- The defrost system has three components; defrost heater,
defrost timer and defrost thermostat. This system is vital in keeping the
evaporator clear of frost and ice.
Door Gasket- The door gasket is vital in keeping un-wanted heat and
moisture
out of the refrigeration compartments..
